Installation and Maintenance for canvas rugs
are surprisingly easy...as you will find described below.
Installation
Floor cloths or canvas rugs are meant for smooth floors such as wood or linoleum or tile.
It is important that they be secured along the edges to avoid scuffing. You may put a thin rubber
non skid pad under it if it is going on a ceramic floor and you don't want the indentation of the tiles showing through. If
you do use a padding, cut it to fit inside the floor cloth and secure the edges with tape or putty to avoid slippage.
Double sided tape or mounting putty works well for securing the rug in its position. It is not recommended
to place floor cloths on top of another rug; the heel of a shoe may puncture it.
Floor cloths come shipped wrapped around a tube. Lay it out and let it flatten naturally, about 48 hours.
If it does not flatten out completly, weight the sides to help it do so. Save the tube for storage or to move it. Floor cloths
should never be folded, only rolled, or the paint may crack.
These
are made for interior use but because they are so durable they are perfect as outdoor rugs, as well, however, keep them out
of hot, direct sun.
Maintenance
Floor cloths are very simple to maintain. They just need a mild soap, such as dish soap and a damp
mop to clean. Do not use abrasive cleansers as they may scratch the surface. You may use a soft brush to get out ground in
dirt. They may be swept or vacuumed every day.
If you wish, you
can apply a thin coat of floor wax. This brings out the colors and gives the floor cloth extra protection.
If the floor cloth is in a high transit area you may want to apply a new coat of varnish once a year.
Otherwise, you can reapply varnish once every 2-3 years. Wash the floor cloth well with warm water and soap to remove dirt
and any wax you may have applied. Apply a coat of polyurethane varnish and let cure for 48 hours before putting it back on
the floor.
If the floor cloth gets wet on the underside just hang it up to
dry.
If furniture is placed on the floor cloth use glide caps
on the legs to protect it from scratches.
When you wish to store
it roll it around the tube paint side out and put plastic over it. Do not roll it up with the rubber non skid pad, it may
affect the paint if stored too long.
Floor cloths are very durable.
In short, canvas rugs withstand traffic of dogs, kids, and big people, requiring simple wet mop for spills, dribbles and messes.
They really are that easy to maintain!
Enjoy!
