Laurel's Design Newsletter - February 2009
The other day a client had asked me to visit and measure and
discuss designs
for adding a canvas rug or two in her home.
Typically, I bring
a variety of sizes and designs of finished
canvas rugs to give the client a better idea of how a rug can fit
an
area and offer decorating options.
As we walked through the home, we stopped at the guest bathroom
where the
owner lamented over the messiness of her seven year old
son and his stream of friends in front of the toilet.
The bathroom walls were
painted red with a red-lacquer Chinese cabinet
decorated with ornaments
from China as the focal piece. I asked had she
considered a bathroom rug in front of the toilet; she admitted that
because of the boys in the bathroom, not to mention the chore of
keeping a rug clean in that location, she had never
considered it.
After touring the house, we sat down to discuss the different
canvas rug options for her. I
pulled from my stack of canvas rug
designs, a rich red 2'x 4' rug with a black Oriental stencil and
suggested
it for her guest bathroom.
Of course, I reiterated the easy maintenance of
canvas rugs in high
traffic areas and explained that they could
take a daily wet mop
cleaning quite well.
She was over the moon with the design and how perfectly it worked
in the guest bathroom...especially with seven year old boys!
When considering
a canvas rug in a bathroom, or any room, a custom
design can be taken from any number of existing aspects: tile work,
wall paint or color scheme, a specific theme or it can be the
theme.
Creating custom canvas rugs can also be made to fit around
a toilet or free standing sink in addition
to our regularly sized
rugs. Which brings me to our first contest!
